This is only a guide. You can, in fact, fit virtually any blind anywhere.
But some offer distinct advantages in certain situations, for example a blind right next to a cooker would be best if it can be easily wiped clean.

  You may find some of the terms used within the blind industry new to you.
Just in case you thought "burn out" applied only to you after a hard days work, here is a small sample of blind terms explained!

Drop
= the depth of the blind (the width is called the width!)

Louvre
= the vanes of a vertical blind

Recess
= the area above the window ledge where the blind often fits.

Exact
= a trade expression for a blind specified to fit usually outside the recess, to a particular size.

Voile
= a thin fabric that allows some degree of visibility through the fabric, rather like a net curtain does.

Jacquard
= a fabric with a woven in design.

Burn out
= a fabric with thinner areas in the design that allow more light through

Blackout
= a fabric that stops all light

Dimout
= a fabric that eliminates most of the light (usually more than 90%, hence performing a similar task to a blackout fabric)

Ladderbraid
= the cords that locate each slat of a venetian blind

Wand
= the control stick used to alter the angle of the slats on some venetian blinds
